Every year at Christmas time, the cousins on my mother’s side have a gift exchange. This year my son drew his sweet cousin Jessica, who happens to love horses. I decided to make her a pretty bag with leather straps and a horse pendant.
The exterior cotton fabric is the Clippings Cherry print from Anna Maria Horner‘s Loulouthi collection. The interior cotton fabric is a pink batik. The pattern is the Sew Square bag on page 30 of the Winter 2012 edition of Quilts and More magazine. It was super easy. It’s just two large squares of fabric with some elastic sewn in.
I really like the leather handles that the project called for – they lend to the equestrian-chic look I was going for. I don’t know what slobber straps are, but I found these in the horse aisle at D&B Supply and I hoped they would work for the leather bag handles. I also found a horse pendant I thought would be cute attached to one of the handles.
Like I said, the project was super easy to follow. Shout out to the pattern designer Laura Jaquinto!
The leather straps worked just fine, thankyouverymuch! I just knotted the fabric through the handle’s holes.
I love the way the leather compliments the milk chocolate color of the fabric, along with bright pink colors that Jessica likes. And the horse pendant…just icing on the cake!
